Local hero Christophe van der Wal has returned to his home city!
After 5 months of providing cost-free superhero services in Stockholm, Sweden, local hero Christophe "Hercules" van der Wal has returned to Rijswijk, The Netherlands.
"Yeah you know, I just felt that I was done in Sweden, I did what I could, and it helped, a little. I feel I can do more with my Energy-X given powers here in Rijswijk, than in Stockholm, people over there don't want to be helped, or at least aren't eager to admit it", as the muscular bronzed god said in a press conference. When asked what he thought of Sweden he responded, "Sweden is a beautiful country, at least what I've seen from it. I spent most of my time in Stockholm, and that's a nice city. You have a medieval part of town, the new and hip centre, and the SoFo in the south. It's really a lovely city, and I'm glad I got to know it this well."
The mission "Hercules" embarked on was one of peace, love and understanding. The goal was to make the Swedish people more aware of the rest of Europe, more positive towards other countries and less drunk. "I think I did pretty well on the international stuff, you know, just talking to Swedish people, talking about the rest of the world, that sort of shit... The anti-alcohol campaign didn't go that well, there's still a lot of bilge drinking in Sweden, and my attempts to lower alcohol tax were futile..."
Helping the “Muscles from Rijswijk” were 9 other Dutch people, carefully selected from Leiden University. "Yeah, I really wanted other people with me, as you can only do so much on your own... They all came from the Biomedical Sciences study in Leiden, as I feel it's the best education you can get here in Holland, I admit I've been taking classes myself, it's just so damn good!" But in Sweden the general education level was somewhat disappointing, as the “Iron Man” found out himself. "Yes I took Swedish Biomedical courses, but I didn't like it that much... The Karolinska Institutet may be responsible for the Nobel prize for medicine, but their Biomedicine is below standard. Too bad..."
Besides work and studies there was of course lots of time to have fun. "Yeah I had a lot of fun, especially with the fellow Dutch(wo)men! We sang some karaoke, we ate exotic spices, we consumed insane amounts of liquor, we just had a great time together!” When someone pointed out the contradiction of being on an anti-alcohol campaign and "consuming insane amounts of liquor", the “Dutch Lion” responded with "I can control myself when being drunk, unlike other people! It's not like I go and walk around with a red ribbon in my hair and a little basket under my arm, allowing myself to be filmed and laughed at by everyone I know! I'm not stupid or something!"
After this the press conference ended, but we managed to ask one more question to the “Musclenator”: if he thought of his Swedish mission as a failure, or a success. "I think it was a success. I've had a good time, I met new people, I've broadened my horizon and learned to be more independent. So yeah, it was a success! But excuse me now, my girlfriend's waiting for me".
